Sara Maclure
Toronto-based, Sara works primarily in large format, hyperrealism using pencil on paper. She first began her career in the arts by painting murals in underserved neighbourhoods, and local businesses in her hometown of Ottawa, Ontario. Her work is largely inspired by her lived experiences, with common themes centring around gender, race, religion, and sexuality. She continues to take on projects that projects that uplift communities and build resilience.
Most recently, the subject matter of her illustrations has focused on the environment. Drawing upon her post-secondary studies in urban planning and visual arts, Sara brings attention to how consumerism and current lifestyles are impacting our planet. Her imagery of dystopian, potential futures serve as beautiful, yet stark reminders that we are all complicit in the unprecedented influence we are having on ecosystems worldwide.
